The Classroom Experience
The distinctly Augustinian concept of a Community of Learners is found in the Villanova classroom experience. It is engaging, challenging, rigorous, thought-provoking and personal. And it begins for every student with the Augustine and Culture Seminar (ACS).
Personalized attention and guidance are hallmarks of ACS, which introduces students into Villanova’s Community of Learners. In each section, 16 or fewer first-year students participate in weekly group discussions, attend events, and for those also in a Learning Community, live together in the same residence hall. In addition, ACS students are invited by their professors into their homes to discuss life and school work, and to share a home-cooked meal as a tight-knit community.
The attention and guidance from professors that starts with ACS doesn’t end there. It continues and evolves while you mature as a student in your chosen field of study. You will interact with proven scholars–not graduate assistants–in the classroom. These teacher-mentors hold the highest degrees in their fields and genuinely care about their students’ well-being.
Villanova’s extraordinary classroom experience is also reflected in the numbers: a low 12-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio, an average class size of 22 students and a four-year graduation rate that exceeds 90%.
