Student-run masses are held every Sunday evening in the St. Thomas of Villanova Church. This popular service brings Villanovans of all faiths together to worship in a program organized and conducted by the student body. Students can serve as hospitality ministers, Eucharistic ministers and lectors. They also contribute to the service as musicians. The student-based Pastoral Musicians regularly perform at Sunday mass.
Each mass is organized and conducted by the Liturgical Council, a group of students advised by Campus Ministry, who are responsible for the proceedings as Mass Coordinators. The Council meets on a weekly basis to review past liturgies, prepare future celebrations and plan events for the liturgical ministry community.
These students also recruit and train new liturgical ministers. They plan and prepare prayer experiences; community building events; and lead training sessions for all new lectors, Eucharistic ministers, and ministers of hospitality.
Another major aspect of Liturgical Council is helping Campus Ministry prepare large, University-wide liturgies such as Orientation Mass, St. Thomas of Villanova Mass, Advent Mass and the Baccalaureate Mass. New members may join the Council in the spring semester of each academic year.
