Tradition of Athletic Excellence

Villanova has won 19 team national championships, 81 team conference titles and has more than 100 individual national champions. In the annual standings for the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, which measures a program’s across-the-board athletic success, Villanova ranks among the top schools in the Football Championship Subdivision.

The Men’s Basketball team won its first national title in 1985, and the Women’s Cross Country team set a record by winning six consecutive championships from 1989-94. In 2009-10 the Wildcats celebrated three national championships in the span of one calendar year. The Football team won its first national title December 18, 2009, and the Women’s Cross Country team won back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.
